Boca Raton, Florida - A new Second Amendment website has opened in South Florida. American Firearms Institute Inc., was launched November 8th by entrepreneur Evin Daly to offer another line of defense against what he calls “the ceaseless attempts to erode Americans rights to own and carry firearms.”
“The real issue is not the guns,” Daly said at a lunchtime news conference held recently at the Governor’s Club in Palm Beach. “The real issue is the cycle of crime and inner city violence that exists nationwide where the vast majority of gun crime occurs.” He went on to say, “Politicians use the anti-gun stance as the shiny ball to distract the public from the real issues of the role of the desperate poverty, the proliferation and sale of illegal drugs and inner city gang violence in firearm violence; topics that don’t get a career politician re-elected or the publicity as quickly as waving an AK-47 does.”
How will Americanfirearms.org fight its battle against the anti-gun crowd? By using, AFI says, the same statistics that are used to secure a firearms ban against those who seek the ban. The website americanfirearms.org is laden with statistics and crime reports that counter popular beliefs about the misuse of firearms and their reputed danger to the public. “All propaganda,” Daly claims, “to divert us from the real issues. The social issues that need to be tackled require the allocation of resources and great political effort to rectify. Efforts that can cost political careers to succeed.”
American Firearms is a member-driven organization where, for a nominal membership fee, members are kept apprised of critical legislation regarding the use and owning of legal firearms. It provides safety and information for the novice to professional shooter. Privately funded, AFI is already creating controversy by advertising a free drawing for a Beretta 92 FS 9mm handgun, one that is standard issue for the US military and used by many law enforcement agencies around the country. Despite the negative press, and Daly subscribes to the belief that any press is good press, the drawing is not quite what it seems. There is a cash alternative and the winner must comply with Federal and State laws in order to take possession of the firearm. Overseas members are excluded from participating due to US regulations.
AFI is keeping quiet about advance membership signups however they have been described as “substantial.” Word in the industry suggested that this website will fill a void that has existed for some time. The National Rifle Association is a tireless defender of legal firearm rights and promotes safety and training. AFI, not associated with the NRA, takes on tough issues in street fighting the facts and figures. Estimated first year enrollment is projected at 100,000 members.
