10/22 Stocks

Your rifle’s stock is the core onto which all the other accessories and upgrades will be attached. Even though the stock doesn’t have any moving parts it’s still the foundation for all of your other mods, and you’ll be amazed how much more capable your 10/22 will feel with a simple stock upgrade.
The first thing that stands out about this stock is its lightweight, tactical design. If you’re looking to upgrade both the functionality and appearance of your rifle, this is a great option. The lightweight polymer construction both cuts weight from your 10/22 and adds serious durability.
The ProMag is a fantastic way to extend the life and capability of your Ruger without adding an ounce of weight.
If you’re looking for more of an AR-15 style design, the Archangel 556 Stock was crafted specifically for a tactical conversion of the Ruger 10/22 into a .22LR M-4, flat-top carbine. Not only does the appearance of this stock mimic the design of an AR but it also increases stability as well – leading to better performance at the range.
The kit includes top rails, storage, and carbon fiber enhanced polymer stock that ensures your 10/22 will withstand years of abuse.
These Tactical Solutions stocks are ambidextrous all-wood stocks designed with performance in mind and offer features like a unique cheek piece engineered to improve sight-line ergonomics and a factory-installed non-compression pillar bedding system to avoid the kinds of issues that can crop up with wood to metal fitting.

This Thumbhole Stock creates the foundation around which you can build a quality competition-focused rifle, and the sturdy wooden design looks top-notch and comes in multiple different colors for some added customization.
10/22 Triggers

The trigger of your rifle is often where shots are made – or missed. If you’re looking to improve the accuracy of your shooting with a lighter pull weight or more consistent follow-on shot performance, an upgraded trigger should be one of your go-to mods.
This 10/22 trigger from Timney offers a significant upgrade over the factory trigger, with one-piece action that’s a drop-in upgrade which reduces trigger pull to 2-3/4 lb. with zero creep. Adding the Timney to your 10/22 kit will decrease the size of your groups and immediately upgrade repeat shot accuracy.
Of course, it can’t hurt to go straight to the manufacturer for some things. Ruger factory triggers, like this BX model, use a super easy drop-in design which makes installation quick and easy – so you’ll be posting tighter groups in under an hour.
Given it’s a Ruger product, these BX triggers are guaranteed to fit without any gunsmithing. These will tighten your length of pull and drop trigger pull weight by a full 50% – down to 2.5-3 lbs.
Best 10/22 Sights, Mounts & Scopes
Seeing what you’re shooting more clearly is the most basic part of improving your accuracy and speeding target acquisition. These upgrades improve on the factory Ruger 10/22 iron sights and will have you extending your range from day one.
If you’re looking to speed target acquisition this fiber-optic set from Hiviz is bright and easy to install. The dot is visible in almost any lighting condition, which means that you can have a lot more confidence in your shot, even when conditions aren’t ideal.
Plus the front sight features the super bright HIVIZ LiteWave design and both front and rear sights offer interchangeable colors, so you can make this set of sights your own.
If you’re looking to get up close and personal with your target, you’ll need a scope. While this mount won’t improve your sights per se, it gives you a wide range of scope compatibility and is relatively easy to adjust and trade out different models until you find the right combination for your shooting style.
undefined
This riflescope is the real deal, optimized for a wide range of applications from competition shooting to hunting. Adjusting the range and focus of the scope is simple, and dialing in with your 10/22 should be a real pleasure working with this scope. Once you’re dialed in, you’ll feel like you could reach out and touch your target, even when it’s more than 100 yards away.
Best 10/22 Accessories
Rail Accessories
Rails are the scope mounts you’re looking for to get greater accuracy from your rifle and when you’re looking to improve long-distance shooting accuracy. You need a great rail, like the Tactical Solutions 10/22 Picatinny Rail to support a great scope.
It’s important not to skimp here because a cheap rail means more time maintaining your scope and more frequent dial-ins to maintain accuracy.
Extended Mag Releases
If you’ve ever struggled with quick mag changeover, an extended mag release is the accessory for you. These mods are designed to make it simpler to remove the mag one-handed, without struggling to get the right angle or pressure for the changeover.
The Tandemkoss 10/22 Extended Magazine Release is a particularly high-quality option that reduces changeover time.
Muzzle Brakes
Muzzle brakes or compensators sometimes come already included in a barrel design, but when they aren’t it’s worth considering an upgrade to include them on your Ruger 10/22. These outlets help the escaping gas and heat dissipate in more directions as it exits the barrel, reducing pushback that can move the rifle off target and make aiming for a second shot more challenging. Tandemkross’s Game Changer muzzle brake is a fantastic choice.
Best 10/22 Internal Upgrades
Internal upgrades improve or speed the cycling function of the gun. In some cases that means higher accuracy, in other cases, it means skipping steps in the firing process to save time and effort.
Bolt Release
Bolt release mechanisms save you time between shots by making it much simpler to release the bolt, simply pull back slightly instead of turning up and back as you release and reload. While it’s a matter of milliseconds for an experienced shooter, these mechanisms can still get you back to shooting faster and make the difference in a speed competition.
The Tandemkross Custom 10/22 Bolt Release is a good option.
Extended Extractor
Extended extractors change the way the gun ejects used casings. They increase the rate of ejection, improving cycling speed and also directing casing further away from the shooter. The result is a more predictable release, reducing the likelihood of failed ejections. Tandemkross’s Eagle’s Talon Extractor is a fantastic example.
Bolt Tune-Up Kit (Extractor + Firing Pin)
If you’re looking to improve the reliability of your rimfire 10/22, a Bolt tune-up kit like this model from Volquartsen is a must-have. The upgraded extractors and firing pin improve the consistency of ejection rate, leading to faster turnover and fewer misfired rounds.
That’s less time trying to sort out a double feed when you’re on the range and more time spent shooting. Competition shooters especially should consider investing in a bolt tune-up kit to improve rifle consistency.
Best 10/22 Barrels
Your barrel has a significant amount of influence on your rifle’s performance, accuracy, and weight. The barrel has to handle the forces and heat of repeated fire and needs to perform consistently or even the highest grade match ammunition will disappoint when it matters most.
This design is an incredibly easy swap out for your standard 10/22 barrel. Designed specifically for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown platform, the Tactical Solutions 1022TD bull barrel gives you the simplicity of screw-in installation and additional accuracy through increased weight over the OEM barrel.
It drops right into Magpul® and Hogue® takedown stocks with barrel channels for .920″ O.D. bull barrels with no gunsmithing required. You’ll get better accuracy and the durability to handle extended firing sessions without sacrificing performance.
These stainless steel match-grade precision barrels from International Barrel are a great upgrade if you’re looking for tighter barrel tolerances and multiple lengths without adding weight. You can choose from 16” and 20” lengths with 1/2-28 muzzle threads and a 1-16 twist – with fluted options as well. As with most barrel options the International Barrels have drop-in fit, no gunsmithing required.
F.J Feddersen’s 10/22 barrel is maybe the easiest way to take your 10/22 from a plinker to a match-grade performer. They manufacture their barrels from heat-treated chromoly steel with a unique button rifling process for a precise finish and uniform bore, creating a superior shooting 10/22 barrel.
Best 10/22 Magazine Upgrades
Shooting 10 rounds is fun and offers decent room for practice, but there’s no reason to stop there. An expanded mag decreases reloading time gives you more opportunities to hit the target, and – let’s be honest – are a lot more fun.
Triple Mag Coupler
Triple mag couplers aren’t technically an upgrade or extended magazine, instead, they interlock three factory 10/22 rotary magazines with a central clamp for quick reloads, making transitions a breeze.
When one magazine is finished, drop the mag, rotate the coupler and insert your fresh magazine. You triple your capacity without modifying the magazines or rifle.
The Alangator “TriMag” Triple Magazine Coupler for Ruger® 10/22® is a durable option that will keep your mags cycling for years to come.
Magazines Upgrades
Of course, if you want to avoid changing out your magazine after 10 rounds an extended mag is the way to go. A 25 round mag is exactly what it sounds like, a magazine designed to hold 25 rounds for longer shooting sessions.
Quality is key with these, as there’s a huge difference in fit and finish between manufacturers. Stick with OEM options like the Ruger BX-25 10/22 25RD Magazine to avoid the issues that can plague lower quality products.
History Behind the 10/22 Rifle
One of the most successful rifles in modern history, the Ruger 10/22 has been in continuous production since it’s commercial introduction in 1964. Prior to the 10/22, .22LR rifles were largely considered kids toys lacking the durability and precision necessary for everyday use, and generally not offered in adult-sized designs. The 10/22 changed all that.

Ruger’s .22LR auto-loading sensation (along with the pump-action Winchester Model 1906 before it) made these former “youth rifles” into the rifle of choice for plinking, small game hunting, and varmint eradication.
The 10/22 of Today

Today Ruger’s rimfire staple has maintained its original popularity, and seen a massive aftermarket grow up around the rifle. Along with the AR-15 and M1911, the 10/22 is one of the few firearms which can be built completely with aftermarket parts. These “mods” enhance the platform and enable shooters to create purpose-built 10/22s designed to perform in competitions, long-range shooting, and even tactical applications.
The possibilities with the 10/22 are so vast the rifle has even been adopted for limited use by the Israel Defense Force as a “less than lethal” security and crowd/riot control tool. The IDF employs a modified carbine version of the 10/22 paired with a suppressor and scope, to avoid detection and maximize tactical advantage.
Wrap up
A factory-fresh Ruger 10/22 is a joy to fire but with a platform as rich in upgrades as the 10/22, we all eventually catch the modding bug. There’s just something satisfying about shooting a gun that’s been customized for your hands. Just make sure you select quality options and you’ll get even more out of the classic Ruger platform. Happy hunting!
