Ohio’s Faxon Firearms is now in an open relationship with Q, the folks behind the new– and only just barely out of wildcat range– 8.6 Blackout cartridge.
In a nutshell, like the 300 Blackout, the 8.6 BLK is designed primarily for suppressed shooting but can be used with supersonic loads as well.
A huge .338-caliber round that typically uses 300-ish grain bullets, it can be fitted to AR-10 style rifles (with 12-inch barrels being the sweet spot ballistically) and use standard .308 Winchester-sized magazines. Faxon plans to make 8.6 BLK barrels for both the AR-10 (DPMS pattern) and Remington Model 700 platforms (Light Palma profile) in 8, 12, and 16-inch lengths, all with a mega fast 1:3 inch twist.
The new barrels are to be available this summer and Faxon has a special page just for the experiment.
