In a move sure to make zero friends among the boys in blue and tan, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon last week <a href="https://da.lacounty.gov/media/news/sheriffs-deputy-possessing-assault-rifle">brought charges against an LA County Sheriff’s deputy</a> for &#8220;unlawfully possessing an assault rifle and tracer ammunition at his home.&#8221;
While law enforcement for years enjoyed an <a href="https://michellawyers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/2008-Letter-from-DOJ-to-CA-Sheriffs-and-Chiefs-of-Police-re-Assault-Weapons.pdf">exemption to the state&#8217;s assault weapon ban</a> this was eroded over the years for many, and they are not exempt from properly registering such guns or jumping through hoops to get them&#8211; which appears to be why Gascon has filed charges.
