Florida’s EAA has hit the sweet spot when it comes to Browning Hi-Power clones in the past couple of years, introducing both classically-styled and more modern takes on the vintage platform that FN walked away from only a half-decade ago.

One of the missed opportunities the Belgians never took was shortening the Hi-Power akin to what Colt did with the 1911 Commander. The closest thing to a Commander-ized Hi-Power was the Argentine-made FM Detective which was marketed here in the 1990s.

Well, EAA has answered the call for gun nerds and late last week announced a new model of their MC P35, the “PI” as in Magnum, P.I. You know, a detective by any other name and all that. The cut-down BHP clone runs a 3.88-inch barrel and shorty slide but everything else is the same including the standard 15+1 shot 9mm capacity.

Cost is expected to be in the $500s with a ship date in the Fall. Hawaiian shirts and mustaches not included.
