Palmetto State Armory has been busy doing R&D on their new and very curious JAKL series of 5.56 AK/AR hybrids.
We caught up with them at the NRA Show in Houston and found the platform to be novel, using a 6061 monolithic upper designed to be compatible with any Mil-Spec AR-15 lower.
However, they use a long-stroke piston design similar to the AK, which allows a fully captured buffer system for those who are fans of side-folding braces and stocks. To tune the JAKL for suppressor use across a range of loads (steel case, anyone?), it uses a toolless 4-position gas block.
